G-Power BMW M5 Hurricane RR Sets Speed Record

The title of “world’s fastest” has a powerful pull on guys. We have a certain need for speed, which, in most cases, is a good thing and a source of bragging rights among buddies.

A great example is a former boss who demanded we call him “Mr. 155,” because that’s how fast he once managed push his Audi A6 on a deserted stretch of I-90. The girls in the office thought he was a moron and asked him why he did it. He just grinned impishly, shrugged his shoulders, and said, “Well, just…because I can.”

The guys in the office were in awe of his feat, which became a heavy topic of discussion in which we compared individual top-speed stories and constantly tried to one-up each other.

And that, friends, is the basis of any speed record on the planet. Guys trying to go faster than other guys. Add in untold millions of dollars, a German tuning powerhouse, and a couple of ASA T1 316 superchargers, and pretty soon you’ve got the fastest sedan on Earth.

BMW tuning specialist G-Power is the current owner of the claim to “world’s fastest production sedan” with its M5-based Hurricane RR.

The Hurricane RR set a class-leading 0-62 mph acceleration time of 4.35 seconds and went from 0-124 in just 9.5 seconds. With the right pedal on the floor, it topped out at 231 miles per hour.

G-Power modified the M5’s V10 with twin superchargers, upping its grunt to 800 horsepower channeled through 19-inch Michelin Pilot Sports tires – 255/35ZR19s in front and 305/30ZR19s in the rear.

Brabus Mercedes-Benz E V12

Brabus Mercedes-Benz E V12You can be sure the folks over at Brabus, another German tuner, won’t sit around and let G-Power have all the record-setting attention. How do I know this? Because Brabus employs guys, and guys don’t let other guys go faster than them. Simple as that.

Plus, Brabus happens to have acertain E V12 Mercedes sedan with 788 hp and a top speed of 217 mph, which InsideLine says is limited just to keep the integrity of the car’s Pirellis intact. The supercar is supposedly capable of 230+ mph, so it’s not a stretch of the imagination to think G-Power’s title won’t last long.
