One of the more rewarding things I get to do for this site is to locate great content. When I find a site that is compelling, I try to post it for my readers. Motores Despidos (Naked Engines) is just one of these great finds. I found the site when I saw some photos of old race cars lying in a junkyard. I decided to post about it when I saw photos from an article called “Cars, companions of a lifetime.” You should check it out.

The site is run by someone with the blogger name Mechanic, and is written in Portuguese. Articles, as well as photo essays are the main content, but the topics are fascinating. Most impressive was an article entitled “Where are the racing cars after retirement.” It showed a series of picture of old race and rally cars rotting away in garages and open lots. Amazingly, it includes ultra rare and expensive models that should be worth tens of millions of dollars. It is one of the saddest photo sets I have ever seen.

I am sure the owners are aware of how rare and valuable these cars are. It is possible they are abandoned, but equally possible they are just waiting for the day they will be restored. Cars like these are too valuable to let rot away.
