Audi R8 Spyder vs. Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

Porsche 911 Turbo, Audi R8 Spyder

This race would be nothing less than exhilarating:

The spectacularly sexy Audi R8 Spyder against the comparably conservative Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet.

The R8’s 5.2-liter V10 produces 525 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 rpm. The 911 has only a 3.8-liter flat six. Of course, “only” is a relative term here, because the Porsche’s direct-injected mill delivers 500 horses and 480 lb-ft at a scant 1,950 rpm. Plus it weighs 165 pounds less than the mighty R8 Spyder.

Lighter weight plus more torque at less rpm equals quicker acceleration, right?

Continue reading to watch Fifth Gear pit these two supreme machines against one another… and see if the Audi can overcome its weight disadvantage to claim the title for hottest looks, quickest acceleration, and fastest lap time.

Of course the Porsche would win, no contest, even with these two dorky drivers who wouldn’t know how to control a donkey cart.
